Community Partner Spotlight : Benjamin Sykes Sturdivant

Benjamin Sykes Sturdivant is a retired farmer and an active volunteer in West Tallahatchie County.

Mr. Sturdivantis an active member of several boards and commissions. He was a past President and a current Commissioner of the Yazoo –Mississippi Delta Levee Board, a Constitutional body of the state of Mississippi. Sykes was a former Commissioner and a former Chairman of the Yazoo – Mississippi Delta Water Management District.

Mr. Sturdivant is active in community affairs and is a member of the West Tallahatchie Habitatfor Humanity and was the original building Chairman when the first Habitat house was built in Mississippi in 1986. He is a member and past President of the Sumner Rotary Club.Mr. Sturdivant is currently a Commissioner of the Emmett Till Commission. He was recently appointed to the Tallahatchie River Authority, a body of the state of Mississippi where he currently serves as President. Sykes served as Chairman of the National Waterways Conference from 2011 thru 2013.

Mr. Sturdivant shares, “It is a privilege to work with the Tallahatchie Early Learning Alliance(Glendora Head start) to provide gifts to all of the children each Christmas and to provide financial support as well.”

Mr. Sturdivant received a Bachelor’s of Science in Agriculture and Business in 1977 from Mississippi State University and a Masters of Business Administration in 1980 from the University of Texas at Austin.
